I, like many others, have watched all manner of TV programmes centred on ghost stories and ghost hunting. I have to admit, I have probably seen every episode of Most Haunted, TAPS and Ghost Adventures; with the infectious, effervescent, drama inducing Zak Bagans!
But as I have evolved, aged and become more questioning than a 5-year-old on infinite ”But why?” replay, I find myself blurting out disapproving moans and groans that far exceeds any ghosts tenacity.
I have been told by many a Psychic/Clairvoyant Medium that when you die, you go to the spirit world, and if you want to come back (in another life) you can do so. Once you have departed you can pop down and see your loved ones – although 9 times out of 10 they can’t see you – and if a family member or friend visits a medium or is able to connect themselves, you can have a chat.
So whilst watching a “true life” ghost programme, I am perplex to why a family of ghosts (a mother and five children) would remain at a property and allow unrelated visitors to see and hear them. According to an eyewitness she heard the mother crying upstairs and the children running about the house, playing with the toys. Does that mean purgatory really exists? Are they re-living their lives over and over again?
I remember a TV Medium saying all hauntings were a recording of a specific moment in time - much like watching a DVD. If that is the case, bearing in mind this well-known Medium spoke directly to the spirits/apparitions/ghosts, how can it be a recording? You cannot interact with a voice or visual recording as it has already happened, the moment has passed and it is not in the “now”.
However, I feel I need to cut this line of questioning some slack. I admit I have been involved in the partaking and running of paranormal investigations. They are adrenalin pumping to start but as the cold sets in and the hours tick by very, very slowly any remnants of adrenalin have diminished and been replaced by some kind of lethargy hormone. My own personal “evidence” that ghosts exist and do in fact haunt places is based on what I felt the ghost was like, how they behaved and how they lived. So, for me, the recording theory holds a sizable weight.
But this does not explain poltergeist, which is a whole different ball game. It seems, in many cases, once you acknowledge there is a presence the more intense the activity becomes. Would it not be the intention of a ghost, acting in the present, to calm down and not take things to the next level, once someone has recognised they are there? And again why, if we do go back to the spirit world, would this kind of nonsense even be allowed by the powers that be in the spirit world?
I can’t deny there has been some great evidence; in the form of photographs, video footage, and voice recordings, but I don’t think we have pushed our paranormal thinking outside the box. More focus on the weird and wacky I feel, in terms of technology and testing, needs to be thought up by some bright scientific spark. Until then I will carry on grumping and groaning at paranormal TV programmes and puzzling over this paranormal quandary.
But as I look out of my window on this cold, bleak, winters eve the cemetery looks a little more imposing than usual.
Perhaps I’ll turn a few more lights on………………….
